Renting doesn’t mean your walls have to stay white. Here are the best peel and stick wallpapers available right now — by aesthetic, by room, and by how easy they actually are to install.
What to Look For in Peel and Stick Wallpaper
The key is knowing which brands and patterns are actually worth it. Here’s the edit, organized by aesthetic and room.
Not all peel-and-stick is equal. The quality differences between brands are significant, and the things to look for are specific.
Fabric texture on the surface — the better products have a slight textile feel rather than a plastic surface. This is what makes the difference between paper that looks like wallpaper and paper that looks like a decal.
Repositionability — good peel-and-stick can be removed and restuck multiple times during installation. This is essential for anyone doing a first installation, when alignment almost always requires adjustment.
Wall suitability — peel-and-stick requires a clean, smooth, flat-painted wall. Fresh paint (under 30 days), textured walls, and matte paint can all cause adhesion problems. Always test a small piece in an inconspicuous spot before committing to a full wall.
Pattern repeat clarity — check that the pattern repeat is clearly described before you order. Matching repeats across panels requires purchasing extra paper and careful installation.
The Edit by Aesthetic
Peel and stick wallpaper has transformed what’s possible for renters. A year ago, the options were either expensive or unconvincing. That’s changed significantly — there are now genuinely beautiful peel-and-stick options that install cleanly, remove without damage, and look nothing like what you’d expect from a removable product.
FOR WARM BOTANICAL — Painted Paper: Ellis Botanical An intricate botanical pattern in black and amber with a detailed forest and floral illustration. One of Painted Paper’s strongest patterns for bedroom accent walls — the dark-ground botanical creates a jewel box effect in small doses and a full room transformation in larger applications. Available in peel and stick, pre-pasted, and traditional. https://paintedpaper.com/products/ellis-botanical-wallpaper Price: ~$55–85 per roll
FOR MOODY FLORALS — Painted Paper: Odette Arboretum A metallic woodland pattern in black, brown, and gold — delicate botanical illustrations on a black backdrop with dark bronze and white accents. One of Painted Paper’s most-recommended patterns for dining rooms and powder rooms. The gold tones respond to candlelight in a way that feels intentional rather than decorative. https://paintedpaper.com/collections/floral-botanical/products/odette-arboretum-wallpaper Price: ~$55–85 per roll
FOR BOLD COLOR — Painted Paper: Bowen Mediterranean-inspired in rich blue and vibrant red with botanical motifs that reference classic tile patterns. A strong choice for kitchens, dining areas, and any room where you want energy and color without going fully abstract. The pattern is complex enough to read as designed rather than busy. https://paintedpaper.com/products/bowen-wallpaper Price: ~$55–85 per roll
FOR GRAPHIC MODERN — Lemon Park: Parker A luxury designer pattern with a 24-inch tile repeat and clean graphic lines. Works well in entries, home offices, and powder rooms where a bold, modern statement is the goal. Available in both peel-and-stick and traditional options. Made in the USA. https://lemonpark.com/products/parker-wallpaper Price: ~$60–90 per roll
FOR SOFT FLORAL — Lemon Park: Maven A pink floral pattern that adds personality without overwhelming — described by Lemon Park as “a subtle pop of personality.” Works in bedrooms, nurseries, and powder rooms. Light enough to pair with warm neutrals, distinctive enough to be the room’s primary pattern decision. https://lemonpark.com/products/maven-wallpaper Price: ~$60–90 per roll
FOR NATURE AND PATTERN — Lemon Park: Alta A wintry mountain scene with blue elk among snowy peaks. A distinctive, narrative pattern that works for cabins, mountain-adjacent rooms, and anyone who wants their wallpaper to tell a story. More unusual than most options at this price point. https://lemonpark.com/products/alta-wallpaper Price: ~$60–90 per roll
Installation Tips for Renters
Start with a clean, dry wall. Wipe with a slightly damp cloth and allow to dry completely before starting.
Work top to bottom, one panel at a time. Peel back only the top few inches of backing to start, align the top edge carefully, then slowly reveal the rest of the backing while smoothing down with a squeegee or credit card.
Leave a small gap at the ceiling and floor — approximately 1/8 inch — rather than pressing into the corners. This makes removal much cleaner.
When removing, pull at a 45-degree angle slowly and steadily. Never rip. On standard painted walls, well-installed peel-and-stick removes cleanly. On fresh paint or textured walls, test first.
Both Lemon Park and Painted Paper offer samples — order them before committing to a full roll. The sample is the most important purchase.
